Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Governor Dr Bhai Mahavir on March 10 said the state
government should accept Election Commission's (EC) recommendations and suspend 10
officials, who have been found responsible for irregularities in the voters' lists
in the state.
"The commission has recommended suspension of these officials, including three
collectors, only after it was convinced that they are responsible for the
irregularities. Hence the state government must do its duty in the matter," the
Governor said.
If the irregularities are not removed, people may lose faith in Democracy, as it is
necessary for them to believe that elections are held in an independent and
impartial manner, he said.
The EC has proved its impartiality by holding elections in Jammu and Kashmir even in
the face of threats from terrorist and separatist, he said and pointed out "If the
irregularities are not sorted out, it would send a wrong message to the people."
Even after the last Assembly elections, some employees of the Raj Bhavan had
complained that their names did not figure in the voters list, Mahavir added.
