Journalists protest TN govt's vindictive attitude
Monday, March 10 2003 15:42 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Journalists' organisations on March 10 organised a demonstration in front of the state guesthouse, protesting against the 'vindictive' attitude of the Tamil Nadu government in filing defamation cases against dailies in the state.

Over 150 journalists from print and electronic media participated in the hour-long demonstration, during which they raised slogans against the 'high handedness' of the government.

They also protested the Kerala police action against journalists from Tamil Nadu, who had gone to Mukkali to see the work undertaken by the Kerala government to construct a weir across Bhavani river on February 15.

The call for the demonstration was given by Madras Union of Journalists, Chennai Press Club and Journalist Action Group.
