Imphal: Four militants and an Assam Rifles jawan were killed in an exchange of fire between armed ultras and security personnel at Oksu area under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district of Manipur on March 11.

Sources said the encounter took place when a patrolling party of Assam Rifles was fired upon by activists of underground Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) at Oksu, about 25 km East of Imphal, on March 11 afternoon.

Four KYKL members and an Assam Rifles jawan were killed on the spot in the encounter, the sources said, adding that securitymen recovered one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), one AK 47 rifle and two M 21 guns besides some ammunitions from them.

Sources said the other militants escaped through the forest after the encounter.
