New Delhi: After being virtually snubbed by foreign countries including the US and Britain on their political line, Hurriyat Conference has deputed a two-member team to apprise diplomatic corps of their views on fresh developments, including the appointment of new interlocutor N N Vohra for Jammu and Kashmir.

The delegation comprising former Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yaseen Malik met officials of Canada and Britain to apprise them of the opinions held by the amalgam about new developments.

When contacted, Mirwaiz, while confirming the meetings, refused to divulge anything further saying, "We will come out in public only after all the meetings are over."

The amalgam leadership had come in for a severe criticism from within after British High Commissioner Rob Young, during his visit to the valley, criticised Hurriyat's stand of not participating in the Assembly elections and had also "advised" them to help in strengthening the Democratic process.

Before this, American Ambassador Robert D Blackwill completely ignored the amalgam leadership from his schedule during his visit to the valley.

The delegations from the European Union and other Western countries have also asked the amalgam leadership to come out against violence.

The move was seen as a "damage control" exercise by the Hurriyat to woo the foreign support, which has been on a decline after Hurriyat chose to keep away from the election process in the state last year.
