Rameswaram: Forty one fishermen, who had been detained by the Sri Lankan government
after they were abducted from mid sea by fishermen of the island nation, were
released on March 11 evening, official sources said.
They told reporters that 16 of the fishermen were from Pudukottai district and the
rest from Nagapattinam district. They were abducted in February and early March for
allegedly crossing the international border and fishing in Sri Lankan waters, the
sources said.
Twenty-seven more Indian fishermen are still in the custody of the Sri Lankan
government.
