Mumbai: Nine commuters were killed and 65 others injured when a powerful explosion ripped through a ladies compartment and an adjoining bogie of a Karjat-bound local train tonight.

The explosion was so powerful that victims were injured above the waist and the top of the compartments blew off, police said.

Most of the injured were rushed to Mulund and Sion hospital. some of them were in a serious condition.
