Tezpur (Assam): The GOC (General Officer in Commanding) Gajraj Corps, Lt Gen Mohinder
Singh, on March 13 said that the ULFA (United Liberation Front of Assam) was helped
by ISI agents in the recent attack on oil installations at Digboi and Kathalguri in
Assam.
''The ULFA militants chose soft targets to establish their existence and succeeded in
exploding oil installations as security was inadequate in these industries,'' Singh,
who is
also the military commander of the Unified Command Structure, told reporters.
He further said that militants involved in these attacks came from the Myanmar camp
of the banned outfit.
''The ISI is a big menace for the security forces during anti-insurgency operations
in Assam. Moreover, the dense forest bordering Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar have
helped militants to easily enter the state,'' the GOC said.
Besides, the ULFA militants were acquiring weapons from different countries assisted
mostly by ISI agents, he said.
The GOC, however, admitted that no outfit can be totally eliminated but the security
forces have to ensure that their activities were kept to a minimum.
