Kohima: Janata Dal-United (JD-U), an ally of the ruling five-party Democratic
Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), on March 13 expressed unhappiness over the allocation of
portfolios, saying it was not done in an "accommodative spirit".
JD-U state vice-president Nihozhe Sohe in a statement said the allocation of
portfolios in the 33-member Neiphiu Rio Ministry was "not a consensus" and not done
in an "accommodative spirit".
"The allocation of portfolios only displayed the selfishness of some parties to the
people of Nagaland. The JD-U party workers feel that it is a one party government
and cannot be called DAN," the statement said.
All the three Members of Parliament (MLAs) of JD-U have been accommodated in the Rio
ministry with its state unit president Huska Sumi given the agriculture portfolio.
JD-U is for a stable government in Nagaland and the best formula to ensure it is to
have an accommodative spirit among the constituents of DAN, the statement said and
urged the Chief Minister to use his "wisdom" for the stability.
DAN constituents had clinched 38 seats out of 58, results of which were declared so
far in the just concluded Assembly polls in the state. Election Commission withheld
the results of two seats, following reports of gross irregularities during the
polling last month.
