New Delhi: The words "radio" and "information" on March 13 led to a piquant
situation in the Lok Sabha, with a question containing them being rescheduled for
reply on another date by another Minister.
The question by Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Rajo Singh and his Samajwadi
Party (SP) colleague Ramjilal Suman was on revenue sharing in radio paging industry
and was "mistakenly" referred to the Information and Broadcasting Minister, instead
of the Communications and Information Technology Minister, leading to protests by
the questioners.
While Suman said it was a "serious matter" that the government did not know which
question was to be replied by which Minister, Singh wanted to know why the reply was
being re-scheduled.
Speaker Manohar Joshi announced that the question, listed as the first one for the
day's Question Hour, would now be replied on April 9, as the first question by the
Communications and IT Minister.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, while regretting the "inconvenience"
caused to the members, said since the words "radio" and "information" appeared, the
question was "mistakenly" referred to the Information and Broadcasting Minister.
