Washington: Even as Britain virtually gave up on the second UN Security Council
resolution against Iraq in the face of stiff resistance from France, White House
officials in US said they were making preparations for a Presidential address that
would include a date for military action on Iraq.
US officials were quoted by 'Washington Post' saying President George Bush would
address the nation shortly after UN deliberations end to issue a "disarmament
ultimatum to (Iraqi) President Saddam Hussein."
"This will include a date after which military action could occur." That, said 'The
Washington Post', would serve as a signal for journalists, humanitarian workers and
others to leave Iraq if they choose to.
