New Delhi: Asserting that the Babulal Marandi government in Jharkhand enjoyed a
majority, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders on March 14 night ruled out any
change of guard in the state which plunged into a major political crisis following
the resignation of seven ministers on March 13.
"The issue now is not change of leadership. The question today is whether the
government is having a majority or not. We have a majority and once government
proves that it will continue to serve its full term," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
president M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters after an hour-long meeting of NDA
leaders.
Naidu said as there were contradictory reports regarding the defeat of the Chief
Minister on the Floor of the Assembly, "we would await the Governor's
report".
Besides Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, the meeting was attended by Janata Dal –
United (JD-U) president and Union Minister Sharad Yadav, Samata leader and Railway
Minister Nitish Kumar and BJP leaders and Union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Karia
Munda, both belonging to Jharkhand.
Law Minister Arun Jaitley was also present at the talks held at Naidu's
residence.
