Bhopal: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti on March 15 exhorted
the people to take a pledge to throw out the Digvijay Singh-led Congress government
in Madhya Pradesh in the Assembly polls in the state, due by the year-end.
Addressing a "Sankalp rally" organised by her party at the Lal Parade Ground, Bharti
lashed out at Singh, saying under his nine-year rule as Chief Minister, "there was
severe power shortage in the state, condition of roads was very bad and other basic
facilities were also being denied to the people".
Bharti and other BJP leaders strongly criticised Singh for being "responsible for
the irregularities in the voters' lists in the state".
"These irregularities amounted to murder of Democracy by the Chief Minister," she
alleged, adding that this appeared to be a part of his election
management.
The leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly Babulal Gaur alleged that Singh
had been claiming all the while that elections were not won because of development
but due to "election management".
