New Delhi: Defending champions India was held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Egypt in its
final league match on Friday to finish at the third spot of the Akhbar El-Yom fifth
international hockey championship at Cairo.
India, which could manage three wins, two draws and suffered a defeat in the seven-
nation tournament finished behind Poland and Pakistan, according to information
received here on Saturday.
The side, consisting mainly of upcoming players, had registered wins against
Scotland, Greece and France while it was held to draws by archrivals Pakistan last
Saturday and by Egypt on Friday.
India's chances suffered a serious setback when it was drubbed 4-7 by Poland in a
crucial match on Wednesday.
