Jammu: Nine policemen were among 11 persons killed and five injured, when militants
attacked a police post at Ind in Gool area of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir
on March 15 night, official sources said.
A heavily armed group of militants fired on the building where police force was
stationed in the village around 11:30 pm (IST) on March 15 night, the sources said
adding, the cops retaliated and the exchange of fire between two sides continued
till 1:30 am (IST).
Militants also fired some rockets on the building, killing nine policemen and two
civilians. Five other persons were also injured in the attack.
Reinforcement has been wrest from Gool area, sources said, adding efforts are being
made to send a helicopter to bring the victims to Udhampur.
Meanwhile, police sources said four policemen are reported missing after the
incident and are believed to have been kidnapped by the militants who attacked the
police post.
A major search operation has been launched by the army and police to track down the
militants, they said.
No outfit has claimed responsibility, but police suspect Hizbul Mujahideen outfit to
be involved in the incident.
