
Mumbai: The Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on March 16 appealed to all the
communities to join together to achieve the goal of non-violence and thereby wipe out
terrorism.
"The base of Indian culture is non-violence and sacrifice. However, some exploiters
in the society practice terrorism and violence for their means," Shekhawat said while
speaking at the felicitation function to mark the entrance of `Ahimsa Yatra' in South
Mumbai.
"Though different communities and religions practice different ways, all have the
same target of non-violence," the Vice-President said.
Maharashtra Governor Mohd Fazal, Union Minister of State for Power Jayawantiben Mehta
and Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development Dr Vallabhbhai Kathiria
were present on the occasion.
The three-year long 'Ahimsa Yatra' has been undertaken by prominent Jain Sage of
'Terapanth' Acharya Mahapragya to propagate peaceful coexistence and non-violence and
eco-friendly lifestyle to be in harmony with nature.
Mahapragya is successor of Acharya Tulsi, of Anuvrat Movement, which aimed at
strengthening the moral character of the people.
