Kalyani (WB): A large group of illegal Bangladeshi migrants, including seven women
and two children heading for home, were intercepted and arrested from Chakda in West
Bengal's Nadia district on March 18, the police said.
There was come confusion over their number, as the Chakda police put it at 28, while
the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kalyani Prasun Banerjee said they were 19
in number.
The Bangladeshis, who were driving to Bongaon in a mini-truck and a car headed for
the international border with Bangladesh, were intercepted by the police on the
Chakda-Bongaon road and arrested, the SDPO said.
The illegal immigrants, who hailed from Faridpur and Noakhali districts in
Bangladesh had entered the country separately at different points of time to work as
domestic helps and in hotels at Mumbai, New Delhi and other parts of the country.
The Bangladeshis were being interrogated at Chakda police station and would be
produced in court on March 19.
