Mumbai train blast: Oppn seeks Bhujabal's head
Wednesday, March 19 2003 13:59 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The powerful bomb blast that ripped through a suburban train at Mulund had its echo in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on March 19 with a vociferous Shiv Sena- BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) Opposition demanding resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, and Speaker Arun Gujrathi accepting the saffron combine- sponsored adjournment motion, setting aside the day's agenda.

The issue was raised in the House by Opposition leader Narayan Rane, who had moved an adjournment motion under rule 5 of the state Legislature.

Terming the incident as "unfortunate", Rane said, "The entire metropolis is reeling under a fear psychosis and the common man's life is not secure."

Alleging that the entire government machinery had "failed" to tackle the subversive activities, the Opposition leader asked them to "do some introspection and quit the seat of power".

Supporting the adjournment motion, BJP member Gopinath Munde said four bomb blasts have rocked the metropolis in the last three months and the Home department has "failed" to unearth the conspiracy.

The entire Sena-BJP members then sprang to their feet raising slogans against the government and sought Bhujbal's resignation.
