Jammu: Indian and Pakistani troops were engaged in heavy firing and shelling along
borders in Jammu division since March 18 evening, official sources said on March 19.
Pakistani troops targeted Bhawani sector in Rajouri district with mortar shells,
forcing Indian troops to retaliate, the sources said, adding the exchange between
the two sides continued intermittently till March 19 morning without any loss or
damage on Indian side.
Small arms firing exchange between the two sides along international border also
took place at Narayanpur in Ramgarh sector of Jammu district on March 18
night. "However, there was no casualty on our side," the sources said.
A junior commissioned officer, Subedar Pradeep Thapa, who was injured in Pak troops'
shelling in Ajote-Digwar area of Poonch district on March 18, succumbed to injuries
on March 19, the sources said.
Meanwhile, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near a footpath in Kalkar
village of Surankote in Poonch district on March 18 evening.
However, there was no damage to property or injury to anyone, the sources
said.
