Bangalore: Well known Hindustani musician R V Sheshadri Gawai died on March 19
following a cardiac arrest. He was 80.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Gawai, who celebrated his 80th birthday on March 18, complained of chest pain on
March 19 morning after imparting music training to his disciples in the music school
run by him.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital where he breathed his last.
Gawai, a recipient of the 'Rajyotsava' award in recognition of his contribution to
the field of music, was also the chairman of the Karnataka Sangeetha Nruthya Academy.
Gawai was also bringing out a magazine 'Gayana Ganga' dedicated to music.
He had served as the principal of the Basava Sangeet Vidyalaya.
