Dubai: As Iraq pounded missiles on Kuwait, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait on March 21
sought to allay fears of the Indian community saying the country was safe with life
going on as usual in the city and that the current situation did not warrant any
evacuation.
"Kuwait continues to be safe and secure and its residents including the Indian
community, remain relatively calm and are continuing with their normal activities,"
the Embassy said.
"The Kuwaiti government has made elaborate arrangements for civil defence and has
deployed additional security forces for the safety and protection of the residents
in Kuwait," it said in a release.
"The situation at present does not warrant evacuation or any other special measures.
However, should such a situation arise, necessary contingency plans are in place to
meet all exigencies in co-operation with the Kuwait government," it said.
Despite air raid sirens and missile attacks, no damage to life or property had been
reported in Kuwait and even these dangers are likely to recede with the passage of
time, the release said.
The Kuwait airport remains open for civilian traffic and Air India and Indian
Airlines are both operating regular flights.
The Embassy attributed a spurt in traffic to the closure of schools during spring
and the return of some workers from suspended projects. most of the CBSE exams are
over and the remaining ones are expected to be completed without hitch.
