New Delhi: India on March 22 assured Nepal of all possible help in its fight to
combat growing Maoist insurgency in the Himalayan kingdom.
The assurance was conveyed by the Defence Minister George Fernandes, when he called
on the visiting Nepalese King Gyanendra Bikram Shah at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Fernandes was with the visiting monarch for 45 minutes, official sources said.
India has supplied at heavily concessional rates warfare equipment to Nepal
including helicopters, assault rifles, mortars, jeeps and communication equipment.
New Delhi has also trained Nepalese army personnel and officers in its anti-
insurgency warfare schools.
