Srinagar: Four civilians were killed and two others injured in Pakistani shelling along the line of control (LoC) in Karnah sector of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on March 22.

The deceased, identified as Mohammad Yaqoob, Abdul Rashid, Bashir Ahmad and Rajwali Piswal, died instantly while two others - Bashir Ahmad and Sirajuddin - sustained serious injuries in the shelling on March 21, the sources said.

The sources said the civilians were working with Army as porters and were targeted by the Pakistani troops who fired artillery and mortars towards the Indian positions in Dad area of Karnah in Kupwara district of North Kashmir.

The shelling was retaliated by the troops guarding the border and the gunbattle continued till late March 21 night, the sources said, adding there was no immediate report of any casualty on the Pakistani side.
