Washington: As the United States launched a long-awaited massive aerial campaign
against Iraq, Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Gen Richard Myers, chairman of
the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said.
Myers said that in the heavy air bombardment "several hundred military targets will
be hit over the coming hours". Rumsfeld and Myers briefed reporters at the Pentagon
shortly after the bombing began.
