Chennai: In the midst of Supreme Court hearing on Ayodhya issue and excavation at the disputed site in the temple town, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on March 22 met Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and urged him to pursue the initiative taken by him to help reach an agreement among concerned parties which would be more enduring.

"I have requested the Shankaracharya to pursue the initiative taken by him," Advani told reporters after meeting the seer.

The Deputy Prime Minister, who attended Golden Jubilee celebrations of the ascension to the peeth of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt by the Shankaracharya, said, "I believe that an agreement among the communities was more enduring as there was a possibility of some people challenging court orders."

He said like Kachi Shankaracharya, another prominent religious leader Sri Sri Ravishankar was also trying to find a solution to the issue.

The Shankaracharya had earlier held discussions with leaders from both communities but the attempt did not yield results.
