New Delhi: Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani would soon convene a meeting with the
Jammu and Kashmir government to discuss stepping up security in the state in the
wake of the Pulwama massacre on March 24.
A decision to this effect was taken on March 25 night at a 90-minute meeting of the
Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Atal Behari
Vajpayee.
The meeting to review the security scenario will be attended by Defence Minister
George Fernandes, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and possibly Governor G C
Saxena, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha told reporters.
Replying to questions, Sinha said that besides steps to beef up security, People's
Democratic Party (PDP)-Congress government's "healing touch" policy might also
figure during the parleys depending on the security review.
Accusing Pakistan of having masterminded the killing of Pundits, the minister said
that India has taken into confidence the United States and Britain on the issue and
asked the international community to step up pressure on Islamabad to stop cross-
border terrorism.
Advani, who returned after a day-long visit to Nadimarg village in Pulwama district,
gave a detailed briefing on his assessment of the situation to the CCS.
