Ambala: Haryana Police on March 26 arrested a Pakistani spy from Ambala Cant and
recovered maps of several military installations in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, a
senior police official said.
THe ISI-trained spy, Masood Akhdare Haider alias Ramu, was arrested when he was
sending some important information through e-Mail to Pakistan from a cyber cafe at
Ambala Cant, Superintendent of Police Hardeep Singh Doon told reporters.
Interrogation of Haider revealed that before coming to India, he was given training
by Pakistan Army at Shahin in Lahore and at a few other Cantonments, Doon said.
Haider revealed that Pakistan Army was paying Rs 4,000 to his family, comprising his
wife, daughter and son, in that country and a similar amount was being paid to him
here.
The Pakistan Army had given him detailed geographical information of sensitive
places and various Indian Cantonments.
The SP said Haider had left Karachi by air for Dhaka on July 7, 2002 from where he
reached Kathmandu and entered India by road and reached Delhi. He reached Hissar in
August 2002. He had taken a house on rent there and started working in a hotel.
Around three days back, he came to Ambala after the police at Hissar put pressure on
him.
Besides the maps, an ATM card, a camera, a purse and some other important documents
were recovered from him.
Haider is the second ISI-trained spy to be arrested from Ambala Cant in the past
five months. Police had arrested Mohammad Salem while he was taking photographs of
the Ambala Air Force station on November 1, 2002. He is presently in judicial
custody.
