Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Congress on March 27 charged the Union Home Minister L K
Advani with not being able to ensure safety of the people and maintaining the law
and order situation in the state.
"Advani has not managed to ensure safety of people and even of his own party members
of his Parliamentary constituency of Gandhinagar in Gujarat," Gujarat Pradesh
Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Shankersinh Vaghela alleged.
He came down heavily on the Deputy Prime Minister's "poor handling" of law and order
situation in the state and also criticised Advani for his "immature statement" that
there appeared to be an "underworld nexus" in the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) leader Haren Pandya in Ahmedabad on March 26.
Vaghela termed the response to the state-wide bandh called by the party to protest
the killing of Pandya as a "success and sign of support" that Gujaratis have shown
towards their discontent with the BJP government.
Commenting on the "declining" law and order situation in Gandhinagar, Vaghela
said, "Not a single day has passed when loot, robbery, rape, murder cases are not
registered in Advani's own Parliamentary constituency. How will he ensure safety of
five crore people of Gujarat?"
