Dewas: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Acharya Dharmendra, arrested on March 16
for giving an alleged inflammatory speech, was on March 28 released on bail by the
court of chief judicial magistrate, R K Bhave after he furnished a security bond of
Rs 5,000.
The Acharya was arrested on March 16 night just before he was about to board a train
at Ujjain railway station.
Charges against the Acharya have been framed under section 153 (a), 153 (b) and 295
(a).
The Acharya's lawyer Rajendra Bapat said he would now move either the sessions court
or the High Court at Jabalpur for quashing of charges against the VHP leader.
After his arrest, the VHP leader was brought to Dewas and again taken back to Ujjain
and lodged in the jail there.
The VHP leader had earlier announced that he would not seek bail and there were
demands from his organisation that he be released unconditionally.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh had on March 27 said the Acharya should
seek bail or "he will continue to stay where he is lodged at present".
