Friday, March 28 2003 22:53 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Pakistan on March 28 urged both the United States and Britain to arrange peace talks with India to try to resolve the Kashmir issue.

"We will welcome any proposal on their part to help ensure peace in the region," Information Minister Sheikh Ahmed said. "We would like to see them get involved."

Ahmed was commenting on a joint statement issued on March 27 by US Secretary of State Colin Powell and British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw asking New Delhi and Islamabad to "consider immediately implementing a ceasefire and taking other active steps to reduce tension".
