London: A majestic gurdwara, stated to be the largest in Europe, with provision to
accommodate 3,000 devotees at a time, was opened in the Sikh-dominated Southall in
West London on March 30.
Built at a cost of 16 million Pounds, the marble-floored gurdwara has a covered area
of 100,000 square feet, president of the Gurdwara Management Committee of Singh
Sabha, Himmat Singh Sohi said.
Architect of the gurdwara, Richard Adams, visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar and
several other gurdwaras in India to incorporate the best designs and panelling for
the Southall gurdwara to make it a unique shrine in its design and architecture, he
said.
