New Delhi: Welcoming the Supreme Court's rejection of the Centre's plea to vacate
the stay on religious activities on the undisputed land in Ayodhya, a Muslim body on
March 31 said the Centre should now stop supporting the demands of the Vishwa Hindu
Parishad (VHP) and press the organisation to stop its agitation and commit to wait
for the Court's final verdict in the case.
In a statement in New Delhi, All India Muslim Majlis-E-Mushawarat (AIMMM) president
Syed Shahabuddin said, "the AIMMM expects that the Union government shall now stop
all legal and administrative support to the demands of the VHP and its Ram
Janmabhoomi Nyas."
"The AIMMM demands that in the interest of communal harmony, government should press
the sangh parivar and VHP to stop their agitation and commit themselves to accept
the final judicial verdict and wait for the legal disposal of the acquired area,"
Shahabuddin added.
Appealing to all secular parties to mobilise to boycott the "incendiary" campaign of
the sangh parivar, the statement said "the AIMMM calls upon the secular political
parties to
mobilise the peace loving and secular but silent majority of the people for a
boycott of the incendiary campaign of the sangh parivar which is not motivated by
religion but by lust for power."
