New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam and Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on
April 1 greeted people on the occasion of 'Vikram Samvatsar', 'Chaitra
Sukhladi', 'Gudi Padava', 'Ugadi' and 'Cheti Chand' being celebrated on April 2 to
mark New Year in different regions of the country.
Extending his greetings and best wishes to the people, the President in his message
said, "May the celebrations of these joyous festivals promote unity of minds among
our people.
"May these festivals also promote the values of tolerance, fellow feeling and
strengthen bonds of amity, understanding and harmony. Above all, let us share
happiness with the needy with love and kindness," he said.
The Vice-President said these festivals heralding the New Year are celebrated in
effervescent mood and with enthusiasm and festivities.
"These festivities affirm our faith in unity of our people among diversity and gives
us a sense of pride in our country's glorious heritage," he said.
