Srinagar: Six militants, a Congress activist and a special police officer (SPO) were
among 11 people killed and three ultras surrendered in Jammu and Kashmir, where
security forces busted an underground hideout of al-Bader outfit since March 31
night, a police spokesman said.
Militants gunned down Congress activist Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh at village Wagella in
Kreekri area of Baramulla district in North Kashmir while he was returning to his
home on March 31 evening, the spokesman said.
Three militants of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit were killed in an
encounter with Army at Nowbugh Kund village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir,
the spokesman said.
An unidentified militant was gunned down by the troops of Indo-Tibetan Border Police
during search operations at Kapran village in Anantnag district, the spokesman said.
He said two more ultras belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen identified as Arshad Ayoub
and Zahib FazalIndrabi, both residents of Tandar-Dachhan, were killed in an
encounter with security forces at Kulna-Palmar in Doda district of Jammu region.
A special police officer Rakesh Kumar was killed and two other SPOs Mohinder Singh
and Firdous Ahmad were injured in the encounter, the spokesman said.
Ultras killed an alleged informer of security forces Shabir Ahmad in his house at
Sogam in Kupwara, while body of an unidentified person was recovered by police from
Tral area of Pulwama district on April 1, official sources said.
They said unidentified gunmen also Killed a girl in Handwara area of Kupwara
district on March 31 night.
The sources said a major tragedy was averted early on April 1 morning when police
detected a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) near Khanpora bus stand in
Baramulla district of North Kashmir.
The IED was noticed by a patrol party and was later defuse by the bomb disposal
squad, the sources said.
Security forces unearthed an underground hideout of al-Bader militant outfit during
search operations at Chuntwaliwar in Ganderbal area on the outskirts of Srinagar,
which led to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition, the spokesman said.
The seizure included a sniper rifle, an AK-56 rifle with three magazines and 211
rounds, an under-barrel grenade launcher, its 14 grenades, six hand grenades, a
smoke grenade, a rocket and a wireless set, he said.
A Pakistan-trained militant surrendered before security forces in Beerwah area of
Badgam district in Central Kashmir on April 1, the spokesman said, adding he handed
over one AK rifle, five magazines, 150 rounds and a pistol to the authorities.
Two more militants surrendered before the security forces at Banihal in Doda
district and Boniyar in Baramulla district, the spokesman said.
