Kolkata: Star tennis player Leander Paes on Tuesday said that he was enjoying
playing with Czech partner David Rikl and aimed to reclaim the numero uno status in
world doubles by the end of this season.
"I'm enjoying playing with him. He does the same. We have been playing together for
only three months, which is a pretty short time compared to the other long-standing
combinations in the circuit," Paes told reporters.
"The results are already beginning to show. I had never hoped that we will taste
success so early. I want to have a long-standing partnership with him," Paes said.
Paes, who now has a world doubles ranking of 13, said that with Rikl he has already
won two tournaments, and reached the final and semi-final once each.
"We both think about our game. We learn fast. Our tie-break record is also good. I
hope we will be able to fulfil our target of getting the number one doubles slot in
international tennis by the end of the season," he said.
Showering praise on Rikl, Paes said the Czech was hardworking and had no ego
problems. "Last but not the least, he is a wonderful person."
