JK govt committed to bring about peace: Sayeed
Wednesday, April 2 2003 16:02 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Asserting that the Centre and the state government would be accelerating the development programme in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on April 2 said no efforts would be spared in addressing the "internal dimensions" of the state.

Emerging from a 40-minute meeting with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, Sayeed told reporters that his government was "committed to addressing the internal dimension" of the state and bring peace to the people.

Asked whether there was any discussion on the "healing touch" policy of his government, Sayeed said, "Well, healing touch is not a policy but a philosophy. It deals against corruption, providing job opportunities, ensure all-round development and heal the wounds of people who have been braving militancy."

"Can any government be opposed to this philosophy?" Sayeed asked and said, "Muje lagta hai Prime Minister is se itefaq karte hain (I feel Prime Minister supports this policy).

To a question whether the security situation in the state, especially after the Nadimarg massacre, came up for discussion during his talks with Vajpayee, Sayeed said the present policies of the state government did not augur well for the "enemies" of peace and the country.

"They will continue to create disruptions and sabotage the process as they are finding gradually the local support dwindling. Kashmiris want peace and nothing else and this does not augur well for enemies," he said.
