Katra (J&K): Specific intelligence warnings about a suicide terrorist attack on the famous Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu and Kashmir have sent alarm bells ringing in the security establishment, prompting moves to beef up the security of the mountain- locked cave shrine complex and along the 14-kilometre route leading to it.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu and Kashmir police and Army have intensified surveillance and patrolling after repeated warnings through intelligence sources during the last week that a suicide attack would be mounted at the temple complex, sources said.

If the terrorists fail to reach the temple complex, they may resort to indiscriminate firing anywhere en route with the aim of killing maximum number of devotees, they said citing the intercepted messages.

"Although inputs regarding general threat perceptions are received regularly, the threat is specific this time," the sources said.

CRPF, providing proximate security to the shrine complex, is contemplating to deploy an additional company to strengthen the security grid in wake of the threats, they said.

The warnings come barely a year after security forces gunned down five heavily-armed terrorists close to the shrine when they were apparently moving towards it to launch a suicide attack.
