New Delhi: Adopting a tough posture, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on April 2 said the
Supreme Court's recent decision disallowing prayers at Ayodhya had closed its option
of seeking a solution through judiciary and warned December 6, 1992 would be
repeated if Parliament does not enact a Law to hand over land to Hindus for temple
construction.
Firebrand VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia told a press conference on the
conclusion of week-long 'satyagraha' programme, that the organisation would compel
all political parties, particularly Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, to
clarify their stand on Ram temple issue.
The second phase of VHP's agitation for temple construction will be announced at a
two-day meeting of Ram Janambhoomi Committee meeting from April 29 in Ayodhya, he
said.
"After (last week's) decision of the Supreme Court disallowing prayers at undisputed
land in Ayodhya, we have no trust that we will get Ram temple through judiciary.
"Now only two ways are left to construct Ram temple at the disputed site – enactment
of Law by Parliament or anarchism. We can repeat December 6, 1992," Togadia warned.
He, however, said the VHP would give some time to government to bring in legislation
in Parliament in the coming Monsoon Session and expect other parties to support it.
VHP would also approach Members of Parliament (MPs) individually in their
constituencies to seek their signatures of support for Ram temple and "anybody not
backing the movement will see the reaction from the public", he said.
