Dhantala rape case prime accused re-arrested
Thursday, April 3 2003 11:46 Hrs (IST)

Krishnanagar (WB): The prime accused in the February 5 rape and molestation of women at Dhantala in Nadia district, Chimu Sardar, was re-arrested from Maslandpur in North 24 Parganas district on April 1 night after escaping from CID (Criminal Investigation Department) custody on March 19, police sources said.

Sardar was wounded in his leg after he was shot at by CID men when he attacked them with sharp weapon during April 1 night's joint police and CID raid at his hideout in Maslandpur, the sources said.

He was shifted to Shaktinagar Hospital in Krishnanagar after being initially admitted to Ranaghat Hospital.

Sardar, prime accused in the rape and molestation of women returning from a wedding at Dhantala, had been arrested on March 19 from Amdanga in North 24 Parganas district, produced in court on same day but escaped from CID custody during a break in his interrogation at Ranaghat on that night.
