Indore: Attacking the "healing touch" policy of Mufti Sayeed government of Jammu and
Kashmir, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) alleged it was leading to deterioration of the
situation and charged that the "short-sighted" approach of Congress was helping
in "squandering away" of the gains of successful elections in the state.
Addressing the party National Executive in Indore, BJP president M Venkaiah Naidu
said the Congress, a major alliance partner in the People's Democratic Party (PDP)-
led coalition government, should "review" its Kashmir policy failing which they
would be doing a "great disservice" to the people of the state.
Congress would be "held accountable for the consequences of the deteriorating
situation" in the state, he said.
The BJP chief referred to the recent massacre of 24 Kashmiri Pandits and said
the "gruesome incident" had taken place at a time when the countrymen were "drawing
immense satisfaction from the peaceful and successful conduct of polls" there.
The massacre has "raised serious doubts about the policy being followed by the PDP
government of which the Congress is a major partner," he said charging the "healing
touch policy has met with its nemesis sooner than expected."
He asked, "Who needs the healing touch? Isn't it the bereaved families of the armed
forces and security personnel and the large number of innocents who were massacred
that deserved it more than the militants who are being addressed by this policy?"
