Camp As Sayliyah (Qatar): A car exploded near coalition checkpoint in Iraq, killing the car's driver, three coalition soldiers and a pregnant woman, US Central Command said on April 4.

It appeared to be a suicide attack, a Central Command spokesman said.

The spokesman also said that the incident occurred on April 3 evening near Haditha Dam, when a civilian vehicle approached a coalition checkpoint. The dam is North West of Baghdad, about 130 kilometres from the Iraq-Syria border.

"A pregnant female stepped out of the vehicle and began screaming in fear,'' a statement said. "At this point the civilian vehicle exploded, killing three coalition force members who were approaching the vehicle and wounding two others.''

The statement said the woman and the driver were also killed.
