Ahmedabad: At least 17 pilgrims, including nine women, were missing and feared dead
when a boat capsized in the Bay of Cambay in Bharuch district of Gujarat, about 100
km from Ahmedabad, on April 3.
The boat carrying 42 people from Katpar to Jageshwar sunk when it was caught in a
storm in the sea, Bharuch deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Amarsinh Vasava
said.
While 25 people - 24 men and a woman - managed to swim ashore, efforts were on to
trace the missing, he said, adding the passengers were
undertaking "Parikrama".
Rescue teams from Gujarat Chemical Port Trust Ltd and LNG Petronate Ltd have been
pressed into service to trace the missing people, Vasava said.
