New Delhi: Launching a frontal attack on the Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on
April 6 asked its party cadre and supporters to get ready for taking over the reins
of power after the Delhi Assembly elections slated for later this year.
Addressing a party rally, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP vice president
Mayawati described Congress as the party responsible for the continued exploitation
of dalits and asserted that her party would overthrow the Sheila Dikshit government
in the capital.
Enumerating the work done by her government for the welfare of dalits in Uttar
Pradesh, she said political power was the "master key" that opened doors for
economic and social upliftment of the disadvantaged sections of society.
Mayawati refuted allegations that BSP has compromised on its ideology by forming a
coalition government with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"Had our vote bank been organised enough, we would have come to power in Uttar
Pradesh without the support of a 'Manuwadi' party," she lamented.
She claimed that the party has not deviated from its agenda and continued to work
towards the twin objectives of law and order and development.
Accusing Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Congress of trying to
destabilise her government, she challenged them to prove the charges that she had
asked party MPs and MLAs to divert development funds to party coffers.
Describing herself as a 'tough Chief Minister', Mayawati said she did not hesitate
to take action against people like independent MLA Raja Bhaiya, even though the
Opposition parties gave the issue a casteist colour.
