Washington: The Iraqi government still controls large parts of Baghdad, US Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz said on April 6.

"I suppose you would have to say that the regime controls large sections of Baghdad," he told Fox News.

But he touted the advances US troops have made thus far.

"We are barely past the two weeks of this war, and already we’ve made enormous progress, and our troops are outside of Baghdad, control Baghdad International Airport," he said.

"The feared Republican Guard have suffered enormous losses, and it's clear where the end is," said Golfowitz.
