Moscow: A convoy in which Russian Ambassador and his diplomatic team were travelling
to Damascus came under attack outside Baghdad on April 6, wounding some of its
members, Russian media reported.
President Vladimir Putin was immediately informed of the incident as the US and
Iraqi Ambassadors were summoned by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
According to the state-run "Rossia" television channel, the American and Iraqi
Ambassadors were told in "very tough" terms to ensure safe passage of the Russian
Ambassador and his team to Iraq-Syria border.
Earlier on April 6, Russian Ambassador Vladimir Titorenko left embattled Iraqi
capital for Damascus by road to return to Moscow later in the day.
