Modi should resign on moral grounds: CLP leader
Tuesday, April 8 2003 16:24 Hrs (IST)

Ahmedabad: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in Gujarat Amarsinh Chaudhary has demanded that Chief Minister Narendra Modi immediately resign on moral grounds, looking to the outburst of slain Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Haren Pandya's father Vithalbhai before Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on April 6.

"His (Pandya's) father's outburst clearly implicates Modi as having a hand in the murder and he (Modi) should immediately resign on moral grounds," Chaudhary told reporters on April 7.

"Modi has endlessly talked about morality…and if some moral values are still living within him, he should immediately put in his papers," Chaudhary added.

The Opposition leader also demanded that "Modi must be named in the first information report (FIR) and investigating agencies must obtain a remand to interrogate him.

"Unless he (Modi) proves his innocence, he has no right to adorn the seat of Chief Minister," Chaudhary said.
