Raja Bhaiyya's custody extended by POTA court
Wednesday, April 9 2003 19:08 Hrs (IST)

Kanpur: A designated POTA (Prevention of Terrorist Act) court, on April 9 extended judicial custody of independent legislator Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, his father Udai Pratap Singh and another MLA Akshay Pratap Singh till May 8.

District and Sessions Judge Shailendra Sexana granted for the third time 30 days remand for the three on a prosecution plea which said relevant papers had been sent to the government for sanction for trial under POTA and the clearance was yet to be obtained.

The prosecution also said that the report of the explosives recovered from the Kunda residence of the legislator was yet to be compiled. A bomb disposal squad was to test the explosives to give its final report, it said.

The defence counsel pleaded that no POTA case had been established against the accused as the AK-56 rifle recovered by police was acquired three to four years ago when POTA had not been implemented.
