Opposition's demand to discuss VAT in LS rejected
Wednesday, April 9 2003 12:21 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Opposition parties on April 9 demanded suspension of Question Hour in Lok Sabha to discuss value added tax (VAT), but Speaker Manohar Joshi rejected the demand.

Joshi also disallowed adjournment notices given by several Opposition members on the issue.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mulayam Singh Yadav said VAT was a serious issue and would affect the small scale sector.

He demanded a discussion on the issue immediately.

The SP member was supported by Congress and Left parties.
