New Delhi: Government on April 10 said efforts were on to get Hindi as a recognised
language in the United Nations.
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, Minister of State for External
Affairs Digvijay Singh said funds to the tune of Rs 100 crore were required for the
purpose and Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had stated
that this would not be a constraint.
In reply to another query, the Minister said a Secretariat to promote Hindi was
being set up in Mauritius for which the funding would be provided by India.
He said the Seventh World Hindi Conference is being organised at Paramaribo
(Surinam) from June 5-9, 2003.
