Srinagar: Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has planned attacks on activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Hindu shrines across the country to avenge the killing of Muslims during Gujarat riots, Jammu and Kashmir director general of police (DGP) A K Suri said on April 10.

"We have arrested a top militant commander of Lashkar, who has revealed that the militant outfit has decided to target VHP/RSS activists and Hindu temples across the country, including the Somnath temple, for avenging the killing of Muslims in Gujarat," Suri told reporters.

The DGP said arrested LeT commander Zia Mustafa had received instructions from his mentors in Pakistan to strictly comply with the latest decision.

"The LeT operatives were also told to establish their presence among Muslim youth in Delhi, Gujarat and other parts of the country for waging 'jihad' (holy war)," Suri said.

He said the outfit was emphasising the need to create more hideouts in the valley and the commanders had been directed to create hideouts at the residences of political activists, especially belonging to People's Democratic Party (PDP), Congress and National Conference, and also at the residences of local security personnel.

Suri said they have also been asked to step up recruitment of local youth for militancy.

The DGP said infiltration was slowly picking up, as Pakistan on April 9 made several attempts to push in ultras in Jammu and Kashmir.
