Srinagar: Ahead of Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) on April 11 asked the Centre to announce a comprehensive economic and employment package for the state.

It also asked the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed government to hold regular meetings of the joint screening committee for release of innocent people lodged in various jails within and outside the state.

PDP president and state Finance Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, at a party meeting said the government was facing a challenging situation on economic and employment fronts.

"Concerted efforts are needed to face these challenges and this is possible only if the Centre comes forward to pull the state out of the mess," he said.

The meeting, attended by the Chief Minister, legislators and senior party leaders asked the Centre to announce a comprehensive economic and employment package for Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the coalition government in the past six months, the party called for speeding up development works in the state.

Regarding the healing touch policy, the party put forth several measures to bring the government closer to people.
